New Forest Show welcomes 530 children to annual Schools Day event

The New Forest Agricultural Show Society, organisers of the New Forest and Hampshire County Show welcomed 530 school children to the Showground in Brockenhurst for its annual educational Schools Day on Thursday 6th June. Schools Day is an annual event which supports the Society’s charitable remit to ‘promote and encourage the development of agriculture, forestry, equestrianism and horticulture’.

2019 marked the New Forest Agricultural Show Society’s 3rd Schools Day. Since its launch, Schools Day has continued to grow and expand every year, welcoming 530 children in 2019, more than ever before. 530 school children aged 5-11 from 10 Hampshire Schools participated in 35 different educational activities. Activities included tree climbing, healthy eating, gun dog demonstrations, planting, cheese making, horse riding and smoothie making, all activities are fully funded by the New Forest Agricultural Show Society.

Schools Day is supported by many local businesses and organisations, the majority of whom donate their time and resources on a voluntary basis. Representatives were present from many organisations, including: New Forest Marque, New Forest Centre, Forestry Commission, Minstead Study Centre, Stewarts, Lyburn Cheese, The Sheep Show, Long down Mobile Farm, and Christopher Hoare Tree Surgeons

ExxonMobil attended Schools Day with their ‘Energy Live Here activity. They demonstrated how Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) is used in everyday working. ExxonMobil are sponsors of the Discovery Zone at the New Forest and Hampshire County Show, a section of the New Forest Show dedicated to education.

I was delighted to see so many happy children enjoying an interactive, educational experience and look forward to building on it for next year.  I am pleased to announce that the majority of the activities will also be attending this year’s New Forest & Hampshire County Show, where our visitors can enjoy an interactive, educational and enjoyable day out.

The 2019 New Forest and Hampshire County Show is taking place on 30th, 31st July & 1st August at New Park, Brockenhurst. Tickets are available to purchase online now via the New Forest Show website. All tickets purchased online before 23rd July will receive a 15% discount. This year children aged 5-15 enter the New Forest Show for £1. All proceeds from child ticket sales are being donated to the Samantha and Florence Bailey Bursary.
