We were thrilled to bring back Schools Day to the New Forest Showground this summer – and what a fantastic day it was!

This much-loved event had run for many years until 2019 and was always a highlight in the calendar. Each year, hundreds of children came to New Park for a day of discovery, hands-on learning, and fun – exploring everything from farming and forestry to food production and rural life.

Sadly, the 2020 event had to be cancelled due to the pandemic, and it’s been missed ever since. But in 2025, we were delighted to welcome it back on a slightly smaller scale as we work to re-establish it.

Held on Tuesday 24th June 2025

This year, we welcomed nearly 50 Key Stage 2 pupils and their teachers for a full day of interactive, educational activities celebrating the rural heritage of the New Forest.

A Day Full of Discovery

Schools were divided into smaller groups of 8–10 children and took part in a rotation of 30 minute activity sessions spread across the Showground.

We are incredibly grateful to work with a number of local organisations and experts who delivered engaging and memorable sessions, including:

  • Othens Farm Goats
  • The Hatchet Herd of Pedigree Dexters (with their calves and sheep)
  • New Forest Agisters
  • Lyburn Cheese
  • New Forest Young Commoners
  • New Forest Beekeepers
  • Hampshire Coppice Group
  • Forestry England

A Successful Return

Despite working with a limited budget, the event was a huge success and a joy to deliver. The enthusiasm from pupils, teachers, and local experts showed just how valuable and impactful Schools Day is.

With ongoing support, we hope to grow the event in the years to come – bringing in even more activities and reaching a greater number of children, helping them connect with the countryside and understand the importance of the rural industries that shape our region.

A huge thank you to everyone who made this year’s Schools Day possible. We’re already looking forward to the next one!
