The Old Time Farming section isn’t just about machinery – it’s also where you can see the full journey of food, from freshly harvested wheat to warm, handmade bakes.
Step inside the Old Time Farming Kitchen, run by the brilliant ladies from the New Forest Tractor & Engine Club, and you’ll be met with the delicious smell of freshly baked scones, cheese straws, bread rolls and rock cakes – all made using flour milled on site.
Real Skills, Real Heat
This isn’t your average kitchen demo. Everything is baked using a traditional portable kitchen range fired with wood and coal – no timers, no thermostats, and definitely no fan assist. Just skill, experience, and a good old-fashioned “sizzle test” to tell if it’s hot enough.
And if the stoker doesn’t get the temperature quite right? Let’s just say they’ll hear about it!

A Full Farming Cycle in One Place
The flour used in the kitchen comes straight from the wheat processed in the same section of the Show. It’s harvested, threshed and milled using vintage machinery, including:
- A threshing drum, which separates the grain from the straw and chaff
- A tractor-powered flour mill, producing fresh wholewheat flour
- The final step: turning that flour into something warm and tasty in the kitchen
It’s a fantastic way to see how food was once produced – hands-on, and full of care.

Baked for a Brilliant Cause
Best of all? Everything made in the Old Time Farming Kitchen is sold to raise money for C-R-Y (Cardiac Risk in the Young), a charity that supports cardiac screening and awareness for young people.
