Crafts and Countryside - New Forest Show

Learn all about the fascinating ways of traditional country life when you visit the Crafts and Countryside Zone. Compare traditional methods with modern day technology and learn from experts in their fields.

The working countryside provide plenty of opportunity for visitors of all ages to get involved and have a go at lots of exciting hands-on activities. So roll up your sleeves, get involved in the action and visit the Crafts and Countryside Zone at the New Forest and Hampshire County Show!

Countryside Area

The Countryside Area is an ever popular area of the showground featuring a range of country demonstrations and displays including:

  • Gun Dog Demonstrations
  • Ferret Racing
  • British Transport Police
  • Terrier Racing
  • Hound Parade
  • Fly-casting

The bigger and better fly fishing pond will allow even more visitors to ‘have a go’ at fly-fishing for themselves. It’s not just visitors who can get involved, the gun dog scurry gives your four legged friends the opportunity to race against the clock and demonstrate their retrieval skills.

Craft Tents

A grand total of four craft tents will be showcasing a wide range of carefully handmade products at the Show. Exhibitor space inside the craft tent is reserved exclusively for exhibitors who fully hand make their own products. You’re sure to find an abundance of products which would make perfect gifts.

Village Green

Sit back, relax and enjoy the atmosphere of a traditional village green complemented by performances from the Downton Band. Ideally located next to a Street Food Court and New Forest Cider’s thatched trailer, drawing straight from the barrel. They sell traditional farmhouse cider made on their family holding in the New Forest village of Burley.

Old Time Farming

Step back in time when you visit this wonderfully nostalgic area of the showground. Featuring machinery displays, stationary engines, a farmhouse kitchen and threshing machines to name a few, don’t miss this fantastic opportunity to learn how the agriculture has changed over the years. The old time farming section can also be seen entering the main ring when they transport some of the exquisite pieces of machinery to the East Ring to take part in the grand parade of vintage machinery.

Commoners Drift

Perfectly located in the Old Time Farming machinery, the Commoners Drift is one of three Ringwood Brewery Beer Tents situated around the showground. Why not sit back and admire the wonderful pieces of machinery in the old time farming section with a pint of Ringwood’s quality craft ales.

Blacksmiths

Stimulate your senses when you visit the blacksmiths section this year and watch blacksmiths live in action, working with roaring hot forges. Don’t miss the apprentice blacksmiths participating in shoeing competition each day. Each apprentice must make 2 front and 2 back shoes, a masterful skill you can witness live in action. Admire the contemporary iron sculptures intricately constructed before the Show and judged during Show days.

Rabbits

The new Rabbit Village showcases an intuitive ‘Runaround’ warren style set up that allows them to display their natural behaviours. Come to the village to learn all there is to know about all aspects of rabbit care, and be inspired to give them the lives they deserve.

Coppice Crafts

Learn all about the art of gypsy flower making with New Forest Coppice Crafts Practical demonstrations will take place throughout Show days demonstrating the making of traditional gypsy flowers. A variety of handmade wooden products will also be on sale, all sourced from sustainable local New Forest woodland.
