Metropolitan Mounted Police Confirmed as 2016 Main Ring Attraction - New Forest Show

Metropolitan Mounted Police Confirmed as 2016 Main Ring Attraction

The Metropolitan Mounted Police will be performing their Activity Ride as the main ring attraction at this year’s New Forest and Hampshire County Show. It will be the first time the Metropolitan Police have attended the New Forest Show. They will be performing their Activity Ride twice each day in the Hoburne East Ring. The New Forest and Hampshire County Show will be taking place on Tuesday 26th, Wednesday 27th and Thursday 28th July at New Park, Brockenhurst.

The Metropolitan Mounted Police will be entertaining the crowds in the Hoburne East Ring with their action packed Activity Ride.  The performance provides a fast moving display, demonstrating a high level of skill and agility from both horse and rider. Inch perfect timing, total commitment, professionalism and complete trust are required from each pair. Riders will demonstrate their skills by removing and replacing their jackets, taking off the stirrup irons and finally saddles whilst the horses continue to jump over bush jumps.

The Metropolitan Police Activity Ride was established in the 1950s for displaying the skills of the Mounted Officers and the incredible training of their horses. Despite ceasing for a short while to concentrate on policing the 2012 Olympics, the Activity Ride has been reformed and imbedded into the training development regime of the Mounted Branch.

Denis Dooley Show Secretary says ‘We are tremendously excited to have the Metropolitan Police performing at the Show. With the improved seating and increased viewing around and ring we hope everyone, attending the Show, will be able to enjoy this truly spectacular event’.

In addition to the fantastic Metropolitan Mounted Police, we have a timetable brimming with popular main ring attractions including the sixteen pairs of heavy horses who will be taking part in the World Famous Heavy Horse Musical Drive. International Show jumping will be taking place in the Hoburne East Ring which will see top riders from across the country compete in the International Trail and International Stairway. The Tractor Tug of War and The Grand Parade of Livestock will also be entertaining the crowds each day.
