Vice President carries out Scammell Restoration

Billy Cole, a board member and vice president of the New Forest Agricultural Show Society has undertaken a wonderful restoration of his Scammell – The Leader that we would like to share with you.

The Scammell heritage began in the Victorian era and is often referred to as the greatest name in British Commercial Road Transport. Billy’s Scammell has been in his family since 1936 and they first brought The Leader to the New Forest Show in 1946 which was the first Show following World War 2. The New Forest Show was postponed between 1940 and 1945 during the war. Scammells made a massive contribution to the war effort, building large numbers of Pioneer tank transporters, gun tractors and heavy recovery vehicles.

This year, 70 years after its first appearance at the Show, Billy will be returning with his Scammell.  The restoration process began in June 2013 and took two whole years to complete.

Make sure you catch a glimpse of the Scammell when you visit the Show this year.
